Rooms
A room is where a group works on one piece of work together. The people on it talk there, the flows you've built can answer there, and zv1 joins in whenever someone mentions it. What the room is about stays linked to it: the folders its work lives in, the questions it has settled, and anything it runs on a schedule.
Open Rooms at chat.zerowidth.ai. Every workspace starts with a General room that everyone joins, including people you invite later.
Making a room
Choose + next to Rooms in the left column, name the room after the work, and pick who's in it. You can also start one from these places:
- A folder on your workspace's home page. The room is linked to that folder from the first message.
- A conversation with zv1. Open the conversation's menu in your history and choose Turn into a room. The conversation becomes the room's opening, so the people you bring in can read what you and zv1 already worked out.
- Anywhere zv1 is open. Choose Discuss in a room to take what you're looking at into a new room.
Open and private rooms
When you make a room, you choose who can see it.
OpendefaultAnyone in the workspace can find it, read it, and join in.
Privatemembers onlyOnly the people in it can see it. Everyone else in the workspace, including owners and admins, won't find it in any list or by following a link to it. A private room shows a lock next to its name.
A room made from a conversation with zv1 starts private, because the conversation was only yours.
The room's creator or a workspace admin can change this in the room's Settings. Opening a private room to the workspace lets everyone read everything said in it so far, so saving that change takes a second click.
Talking in a room
Type @ to mention someone:
- @zv1 asks the assistant. It reads the room's recent conversation and answers there, for everyone.
- @ a flow's name asks one of the flows in the room. It needs a published version.
- @ a person's name gets their attention. In an open room, mentioning someone who isn't in it yet brings them in. In a private room, only the people already in it can be mentioned; bring someone in from People first.
When zv1 wants to make a change on someone's behalf, it asks for approval in the room. Everyone can see the request, and only the person who asked can decide it.
Beside the conversation
The column on the right shows the room's name and four sections. Each section's + adds the thing it lists.
- People. Who's in the room, including flows. Anyone can add people, and anyone can leave.
- Work. The folders the room is about and what's in them. The + makes a new doc, sketch, sheet, diagram, or flow, filed where the room can see it, or links another folder.
- Sidebars. Every sidebar the room has had. The + starts a new one.
- Routines. Routines that post here. The + sets up a new one for this room.
At the top of the conversation, the Catch-up summary says what's true in the room right now: what's been decided, what's still open, and who needs to act. zv1 keeps it current as the room talks, and anyone can rewrite it.
Keeping track of rooms
- Star a room from its menu in the left column to keep it at the top.
- Notifications in a room's ⋯ menu sets how much it tells you: Everything, Mentions and replies (when someone @mentions you or answers you), or Nothing. With Nothing, its unread count is dimmed, and you can still open and read it. Rooms you haven't set follow your default, which you can change in your notification settings.
- A busy room is one notification that counts up ("7 new"), not one per message. Opening the room clears it.
- Archive a room when its work is done. It stays readable and leaves the list.
