Reaching people

A study is only as good as who answers it. Prism gives you a few ways to reach people, and the controls to keep your sample honest.

Ways to field a study

Share linkanyone with the link

Every open study has a link. Send it in an email, a Slack message, a community — anyone who opens it can answer anonymously. The simplest way to reach people you already have.

Your own audiencea list or panel you bring

Already have an audience — a customer list, a community, or your own account on a panel service? Point them at your study's link. You can tag where each group came from, so one study fielded to three audiences can be split apart when you read the results.

A recruited panelcoming soon

Recruiting fresh, verified participants to a target audience is on the way. Until then, bring your own audience or use the share link.

Getting the right people

Screeners. Add a question that quietly ends the survey for people who don't fit — ask "Do you own a car?" and send everyone who says no on their way, politely, without counting them as a respondent. Use screeners to keep your results to the audience you actually care about.

Quotas. Cap how many completed responses each group can contribute. If you want a balanced read and one group is answering faster than the rest, set a limit on it — once that group is full, new people from it are thanked and turned away, so the rest of your sample can catch up.

A sample you can defend

Even a good link brings in a lopsided crowd. Weighting corrects for it: tell Prism the real-world split you're aiming for — say, an even mix of two groups — and it adjusts the headline numbers so they speak for that population instead of whoever happened to answer. Weighted results always show their effective sample size, so you can see how much the correction cost you.

Following the loop

  • The people you reach fill your study results — where you'll read the themes, cuts, and report.
  • For depth beyond a survey, add interviews to the same study.
